Research data is the key to progress in health research. It enables more accurate diagnoses, personalised therapies and better care.
The eight German Centres for Health Research (DZG) have published a joint white paper: ‘Health Research Data: Joint Access, More Efficient Research’. In it, the DZG set themselves the goal of actively shaping the national data space together with the Network of University Medicine (NUM), as important changes are taking place: The German Health Data Utilisation Act (GNDG) and the European Health Data Space (EHDS) facilitate access to this data. Secure, easy access to high-quality data is particularly important for AI analyses. The DZG's white paper defines what is necessary for a national data space and to establish a research data infrastructure in Germany: easy access to data, standardisation and linking of study and routine data as well as clear legal and technical framework conditions. Existing platforms and infrastructures of the DZG and the NUM show the potential for synergies: they are to be further expanded and linked even better.
